Our primary Cane Corso stud dog at DogWish is Desiderio.
Besides being a very loving companion, the Cane Corso loves other dogs, and are normally not aggressive towards any other canine. They are balanced to a fault. They love to play, and using his play drive we tricked Desi into biting the decoy, who he also loves. Desi is super smart, very responsive, quick as lightning, unstoppable, balanced with all animals, loving, playful, and correctly protective. From the moment we met Desi has been my best friend, whether I wanted it or not. He is my constant, intimate companion, who never leaves my side, watches my every move, and has proven his worth a hundred times over. What better gift could we give any any client than to present them with a trained dog who displays this type of love and companionship. To us, Desi is perfect! Recon Cane Corso
It is a fact that the Trojan civilization used Cane Corso's to help defend their nation because when the City of Troy fell, the Trojan’s fled to Italy to live with the Etruscans, and obviously took these dogs with them. The grandsons of Paris were two boys, Romulus and Remos, who were separated from the Trojans in Italy in an attack by Greek Army forces, and had to hide to escape being killed by the Greeks. The dogs that helped them survive, and raised them, must have been Cane Corso, or Canis Pugnax , giant dogs, because when Romulus built Rome in 700 BC he had the head of Cane Corso's placed on the Brest Plates of their Armor, on their shields, and on original ancient Roman Wall Paintings. Romulus was in LOVE with the Cane Corso dogs he owned, and the Ancient Romans used them for EVERYTHING. The Romans used the Cane Corso as their main line of Military defense, to take out the Calvary of the enemy by sending out the Cane to break the legs of their horses, and for personal protection. When Julius Caesar took them to Britain to defeat the British tribes, he bred them with Jack Russell Terriers to create what we now know as the “Bull dog”. The Romans took them to war in Germany and created the Rottweiler, to war in France to create the Dog de Bordeaux, and so on. All the Mastiff breeds we know came from their predecessor, who we now know as the Cane Corso. THE CANE CORSO was the greatest working dog in the ancient world, and is the greatest working dog in our modern world! In 1985 we found this dog in several cities in Italy, and started the Reconstruction of the Cane Corso dog. There were several dogs used to do the reconstruction of the breed. We developed breed specific types that are now used world-wide, to insure correctness in breeding. There are original kennels that have followed and maintained these standards for excellence in the breed. Unfortunately, and true to form, many American breeders have not only ignored these standards, but have tried to mix the Cane Corso with other dogs to produce better results, and in many cases have destroyed their lines. Because of this, if your Cane doesn’t come from pure Italian lines, from Europe, there’s a good chance it’s a “cur” or mixed breed, and not a pure Cane. American breeders also are fighting the standard and changing important breed specific features of the Canes they breed according to their own desires, which is despicable. For this reason as well I have decided to name my Cane Corso Kennel RECON CANE’S, as a statement of quality, an assurance that my dogs are true to the standard, and a promise to keep my dogs the very best you will find. Having been National Champion with several of my dogs for over 25 years now, having competed with my dogs all over the world, having handled 100,00s (hundreds of thousands) of dogs from around the world, I can say with complete honesty that the Cane Corso is the greatest working dog I have found, to date. |

The Cane Corso Italiano, the Italian Mastiff

The Cane Corso was the original Mastiff. Until the 1990s we as a species believed that the Mastiff originated in Tibet, but modern archeological findings have confirmed that Mastiffs originally came from the Mount Ararat and Mediterranean area . The oldest remains of a dog that modern archeologists have found are from a cave by the Mediterranean sea, about 17 thousand years old. These remains were found next to a human skeleton of a man who was equipped with ancient armor and artifacts for protection. I believe these to be the remains of an ancient Cane Corso and his warrior master, who died together in that cave.
