Transforming Your Dog into a DogWish Service Dog
DogWish Provides Professional Service Dog Training for Your Family Pet to become a Certified Service Dog

DOGWISH is one of the few schools around that will evaluate and train the client’s own dog.
Dog Wish does accept many family pets, per owner's request, and trains them as DogWish Service Dogs.

Of course, there are requirements your dog will have to meet in order to become a service dog, and here’s the list:

  1. How close is the bond between your dog and your child, or you (if you are the affected person)?  Especially with a dog that is going to be trained for your child, unless there is a strong desire in the dog to be with your child, play, lay by, sleep with, and go with them, they are not going to be what we want.

  2. One a scale of one to 10, how easy is it get your dog to focus and stay focused on you, and/or your child?   This is of primary importance because we want a dog that is more focused on you than it is on distractions.  We require 90% focus in training.

  3. How strong are your dogs’ drives for food, the ball, and to work?  A good service dog is NOT an obedience dog, but a dog that has the intelligence and drive to enter any experience, evaluate that experience, and do what is needed.  The dog, once programed for the work we want, should be able to go into the home and respond as is needed, without having to be told what to do.  The dog should ingest, understand, and respond.  That’s a good dog.  These drives need to be considered in perspective to the age, personality, and needs of the person we are training the dog for.

These three criteria are the foundation we use to train a good Service Dog. In sharing these criteria with other concerned families they have been able to work with, and test their own dogs, to make a more specific determination, before sending them to our facility for training.  It made a big difference.

If you have a dog that is below three years of age, who already has bonded with your child, and you feel your dog meets the above requirements and could possibly make a good service dog, please show us on video.  We will evaluate what we see and respond right away.

GETTING STARTED is Simple: Contact Me through email and/or by phone with your information, and we will begin the process of evaluating your family pet for training and certification as a DogWish Service Dog!
